Ask FIFA to End Discrimination Against Coptic Footballers!

Coptic Solidarity submitted a report & has dialogued with FIFA, urging them to investigate Egypt’s discrimination against #CopticAthletes. There is not a single Copt on the Egyptian national or reserve team. FIFA has failed to uphold their own statue banning discrimination by allowing Egypt to remain a member organization.
Of the 540 players in the top-flight soccer clubs in Egypt, only three are Coptic. Please send a message to FIFA today demanding they end this discrimination!

Discrimination Against Copts in Egyptian Sport Clubs

The Egyptian Football Association is a member association of FIFA. Without accountability, FIFA will not implement its statute and code of ethics which prohibit discrimination against footballers within their member associations. Therefore, FIFA should be investigating why Copts have been prevented from playing football at top levels in Egypt. By sending a message to FIFA and asking them to conduct an independent investigation, you can help end discrimination against Coptic footballers. Please take action today!

I am writing to urge FIFA to launch a thorough, independent investigation into systematic discrimination against Coptic footballers in Egypt. Copts are the indigenous Christians of Egypt and like other religious minorities, do have the same citizenship rights as the majority of Egyptians. The Egyptian Olympic Mission to Brazil in 2016 was completely devoid of Copts, and the same applies to the Egyptian National Team at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Not a single Copt can be found on either the main team or the reserve. There are currently 540 players in the top-flight soccer clubs in Egypt, and that number includes only one Coptic footballer. During the past half-century, an infinitely small number of Coptic footballers – no more than 6 – have managed to join top flight soccer clubs. This systematic discrimination based on religion is in direct contravention of article 4 of FIFA’s Statutes. FIFA has a duty to uphold its policy of anti-discrimination for member associations and to take appropriate action to ensure that the Egyptian Football Association ends discrimination against Coptic athletes. Only in this way will Coptic footballers be afforded equal opportunities to pursue their dreams and talent to the highest level possible. Thank you for you ensuring that Football is for ALL.
